In the UAE, the Fuel Price Committee sets petrol and diesel rates at the end of every month, following trends from the global oil market. This system, introduced in 2015, keeps local fuel prices aligned with international standards.
For October, petrol prices in the UAE are expected to see only a slight change, as global oil prices have stayed mostly steady through August. The average closing price of Brent crude this month has been $67.03 per barrel, showing just a small rise from $66.90 in July.
In September, the prices per litre were:
- Super 98: AED 2.70
- Special 95: AED 2.58
- E-Plus: AED 2.51
Fuel prices are an important part of the UAE’s economy. Even small changes can affect inflation, consumer spending, and business operations, especially in industries like logistics, transport, and construction. Higher or lower prices can also impact airline costs and shipping rates, influencing the country’s global trade competitiveness.
According to Vijay Valecha, Chief Investment Officer at Century Financial, recent oil price pressure has come from news that Iraq, the Kurdistan Regional Government, and international oil companies have agreed to restart crude exports through Turkey’s pipeline to the Mediterranean coast.
This move could add around 230,000 barrels per day to global supply, increasing the market’s surplus and potentially keeping prices down. However, geopolitical risks remain — especially surrounding Russia’s energy sector, as ongoing tensions and new restrictions continue to shape global oil dynamics.
